Current Guidelines

SRHS allows for and encourages the presence of visitors throughout a patient’s healthcare journey unless the presence of visitors infringes on the rights or safety of others or is medically or therapeutically contraindicated.

It is the policy of Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System to grant full and equal visitation rights to individuals designated by the patient, or the patient’s support person, as appropriate, consistent with the patient’s preferences when known. In the event of a public health risk, temporary recommendations and/or restrictions on visitation may be applied under the guidance of SRHS Infectious Disease and public health officials.

Please do not visit if you:

  • Are positive for COVID-19
  • Are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19, including fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, or diarrhea
  • Have been in close contact with someone with COVID-19.

If you are seeking medical care and experiencing any of the symptoms listed above, please tell us immediately.

Health & Safety Rules

Health & Safety Rules

To help us provide a safe, healthy and comforting healing environment, please observe these rules while you’re visiting:

  • Wash your hands often. Hand sanitizer and hand wipe dispensers are located throughout the hospitals. Please clean your hands before entering and leaving patient areas to prevent the spread of germs.
  • If you have symptoms of a cold, flu or other contagious illness, please rest at home until you are well. Visiting patients while you are ill can spread illness and slow their recovery.
  • A quiet and respectful environment is vital to healing. If any visitor causes a disturbance, staff will notify security.
  • Don't bring food or candy for a patient unless a doctor gives permission. Your loved one may have diet restrictions and some foods may be harmful.
  • Tobacco use, including smoking, vaping, e-cigarettes, dipping or chewing, is not permitted on hospital campuses.
  • To ensure medication safety, please do not talk or ask questions of nurses or other staff members while they are preparing and administering medications.
  • Please keep personal items with you. Clutter in patient areas can interfere with medical equipment and access to the patient. In the waiting room, clutter on the floor could cause trips and falls.
  • Electric appliances, including coffee makers, slow cookers and electric blankets, are not permitted in patient rooms or waiting areas, as they present a fire risk.
  • If you witness a disturbance or danger, inform staff or contact security 24 hours a day at:

Special Rules for Critical Care Units

Critical care patients have urgent needs and are at higher risk for infection or complications than other patients. Following these rules will help ensure their safety and well-being in this higher level of care.

  • Only immediate family may visit in critical care.
  • No children under the age of 12 are allowed in critical waiting areas or patient rooms.
  • All electronic devices must be placed on silent or vibrate.
  • Please visit in short intervals, 10 to 15 minutes per visit, so the patient can rest and the nurses can care for them.
  • On admission to the critical care unit, each patient is asked to designate a care partner who will stay updated on the patient’s condition. You must be wearing your care partner badge to receive information about the patient.
  • At certain times, the unit will be closed to all visitors for patient safety and privacy so that regular care and procedures can be performed.
  • To ensure medication safety, please do not talk or ask questions of nurses or other staff members while they are preparing and administering medications.
  • Use the call light in the patient’s room for requests and questions.
  • Please use hand sanitizer before and after leaving to protect patients and yourself.
  • To prevent infection or allergies, no live flowers or plants are allowed. Cards, balloons or pictures are welcome.
  • Please do not sit on the patient’s bed, floor, commode, windowsills or countertops.
  • Do not stand or gather in the hallways, as staff members may need to move quickly to help a patient.
  • Please do not bring large bags, luggage, blankets, pillows or portable chairs into patient rooms or waiting areas.
  • Taking photographs or video of staff or patients is strictly prohibited.
  • Please do not eat, drink or sleep in patient rooms or waiting areas.
  • Public bathrooms are available throughout the hospital. Please do not use patient bathrooms.
  • No cooking devices or other appliances are allowed, as they present a fire risk.

Special Rules for Labor & Delivery

To keep our smallest patients safe, the unit has a restricted entrance and exit, with an alarm system that you may hear during your stay.

  • Do not enter the area without a Labor & Delivery visitor badge.
