Specimen Type

N/A  Must have prerequisite, in date, Type & Screen performed. 

 

 

Additional Information

Product requires 20-30 minutes to thaw and prepare.  Order only with a transfusion order.  Patient must have a completed in date pre-transfusion specimen as appropriate for blood product preparation.

 

 

Rejection Criteria

Blood armband number from pretransfusion specimen does not match patient.  Patient does not have a blood armband.

 

 

Test Includes

Required testing for blood component preparation. 

 

 

Testing Frequency

Daily, Monday-Sunday

Order Emergency if availability does not meet clinical need.

Emergency – Type AB Plasma (or A liquid plasma) with call specifying “Type AB Plasma” or "liquid plasma" or 1 of the emergency coolers and the following information:      

  • Patient Name
  • Patient MRN
  • Ordering Provider
  • Blood Armband #

 

30 minutes

Expected availability times listed are expected to be obtained 80% of the time.
