Additional Information

Patient must have a completed in date pre-transfusion specimen as appropriate for specimen preparation.  
Birth - 4 months:  Must have prerequisite Neonatal Type & Screen performed this admission. 
>4 months:  Must have Prerequisite Type & Screen performed within past 3 days. 
>4 months and pre-screened as not having been pregnant or transfused in the past 3 months by PAT/AM Preprocedures staff:  Must have Prerequisite Type & Screen with extended specimen outdate performed within past 10 days.

All RBC blood products are leukocyte reduced and as such are considered "CMV Safe".  Any additional requirements (CMV sero-negative, irradiated) need to be specified in the order. 

 

 

Rejection Criteria

Blood armband number from pretransfusion specimen does not match patient.  Patient does not have a blood armband.

 

 

Test Includes

Required testing for blood component preparation.

Daily, Monday – Sunday

Pending Type & Screen with Abnormalities*

Unspecified time for problem serologic resolution.  Will provide periodic updates.  Could be hours to days depending on the serological presentation and availability of compatible components in the upstate/nation.  Alert pathologist on call if availability does not meet clinical need.

Emergency – Uncrossmatched Blood with call specifying “Uncrossmatched” and the following information:

  • Patient Name
  • Patient MRN
  • Ordering
  • Provider
  • Blood Armband #

Expected availability times listed are expected to be obtained 80% of the time.
