Collection Instructions

Collections require patient/specimen identification and labeling complete with blood bank armband number.  If the patient does not have a historical blood type on record within the transfusion service, a 2nd specimen will be ordered for collection as the 2nd required safety comparison blood type for crossmatching purposes.  There is no additional fee for this testing.   
Specimen collection must be within 3 days of anticipated transfusion need (^exception made only for pre-screened PAT patients and then must be within 10 days of anticipated transfusion need).

Max:  6.0 ml whole blood EDTA 
Min:  4.0 ml whole blood EDTA 

Additional Information

Type & Screen is only valid for 3 days^ from original order.  Testing must be repeated (reordered) for possible transfusion if necessary after this time. 

Patient Preparation

Patient requires a blood bank armband (bracelet) for potential blood transfusions.
