Maternity Management Program

Maternity Management Program

Quality care during your pregnancy is critical to the health of you and your growing baby. Your prenatal care should begin upon the confirmation of your pregnancy.

For a Healthy Pregnancy and a Healthy Baby

Spartanburg Medical Center offers a special Maternity Management Program, at no cost, for expectant mothers. During this exciting time, there are many things to think about, including the health of you and your baby. With Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System’s Maternity Management Program, you can take advantage of one-on-one support from a maternity nurse navigator who will help you understand any issues that arise during your pregnancy.

A maternity nurse navigator will consult with you on topics including gestational diabetes, nutrition, travel during pregnancy and more. They are here to support you throughout your pregnancy and, if necessary, will contact your physician to assist in the coordination of your care.

How the Program Works

Your obstetrician will refer you to the program within the first 16 weeks of pregnancy. After you are enrolled, your maternity nurse navigator will contact you to conduct an assessment to determine your needs.

Every three to six weeks, they will contact you to see how you and your baby are progressing. Some pregnancies may require them to be more involved, and they may call more often or send extra materials.

During your phone calls, your nurse navigator will provide support and expert advice on how to have a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby.

Your maternity nurse navigator will:

  • Discuss your health history
  • Advise you on safe diet and exercise routines
  • Identify potential pregnancy risk factors
  • Discuss ways to minimize risks to you and your baby
  • Answer questions and provide written materials on pregnancy and childcare issues that are a concern to you
  • Direct you to available community resources for additional information
