Neurological rehabilitation is provided by a multidisciplinary team of experienced occupational therapists, physical therapists, and speech-language pathologists who specialize in the evaluation and treatment of individuals with neurologic disorders.

Occupational Therapy

  • Facilitate return to self-care skills including dressing, bathing, toileting, grooming, and feeding.
  • Train and educate in use of adaptive equipment (devices used to assist with everyday life activities).
  • Increase independence regarding daily living skills, such as simple meal prep and household chores, through task modification and return to function.
  • Enhance visual motor and visual perceptual skills.
  • Improve muscle strength and joint range of motion.
  • Assess and facilitate return to driving.
  • Enhance fine motor coordination.
  • Train family and caregivers in activities of daily living, while maintaining safety.
  • Recommend, modify, or fabricate upper extremity orthoses.

Physical Therapy

  • Provide interventions to improve walking and gait mechanics
  • Improve muscle strength and joint range of motion
  • Improve motor control and coordination
  • Train and educate on safe transfers and bed mobility skills.
  • Recommend appropriate assistive devices and orthotics to maximize stability.
  • Improve balance and functional stability

Speech-language Pathology (Speech therapy)

  • Assist in providing effective and efficient communication skills including use of augmentative and alternative communication
  • Retrain cognition to improve memory, orientation and reasoning
  • Provide patient and family education for exercises, home care, compensatory strategies, etc.
  • Improve/restore functional swallow through altering consistency of foods and liquids
  • Teach safe swallowing techniques and strengthen oral pharyngeal musculature
