Conditions Treated

Every patient receives individualized care specialized specifically for their needs to ensure a meaningful recovery. We treat any kind of wound, including burns, problem wounds, and wounds from injury or accidents.  Some conditions we treat include:

  • Chronic Leg Ulcers (venous stasis ulcers)
People with poor circulation due to other health issues may have trouble healing wounds.
  • Diabetic Ulcers
Diabetics can have problems healing wounds on their feet and legs.
  • Pressure Ulcers
People with limited mobility may develop pressure wounds, often called bed sores.
  • Non-healing Surgical Wounds
Surgical wounds may be slow to heal due to diabetes, obesity or other health issues that prevent normal healing following surgery.
  • Radiation Injury
The injury created by radiation damage from previous cancer treatments can be improved by exposure to high concentrations of oxygen.  It can promote cell repair and growth of new blood vessels. Often these injuries appear many years after radiation.
  • Problem Wounds
Hyperbaric oxygen can be an important part of a comprehensive wound treatment plan.  It may not help every wound, but growing evidence shows benefits for diabetic wounds.
  • Certain Infections
Some infections respond to the inhibiting effects of hyperbaric oxygen. It can improve immune systems function and the work of some antibiotics. It is helpful for chronic bone infections and certain types of bacterial infections.
  • Other Injuries
Large burn wounds, crush injuries, and surgical flaps or grafts that are failing can also benefit from the increase in oxygen and reduction of swelling provided by HBO.

Common procedures and treatments for these conditions include:

  • Dressings
We have many types of dressings available.  We will provide you with the best dressing combination for your wound.  If appropriate, we will educate you and your family on home wound care, or you may return to the clinic for on-going care.
  • Clinician Changes
For each dressing change visit you will be seen by one of our highly-skilled wound specialists who will evaluate your wound and change your dressings.
  • Home Health Services
You may be able to receive in-home health care for your wound.
  • Compression Therapy
Foot and leg wounds often need compression with elastic stockings or bandages to improve blood return, prevent blood pooling, and help control swelling. We will determine if your wound would benefit from this therapy.
  • Debridement
Removing dead tissue and foreign materials from the wound are essential to promote healing. We have many techniques to clear the wound and allow new tissue to grow.
  • Infection Control
Wounds need to be clean and non-infected. Debridement and topical anti-bacterial dressings can help.  If needed, we can also provide oral antibiotics.
  • Off-loading
To heal wounds on the bottom of feet, we must take pressure off the wound. Our team of highly-skilled casting technicians can help take pressure off wounds in a variety of ways using comfortable, easy-to-wear casts and boots custom-designed for each patient.
  • Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy
Diabetic and other problem wound may benefit from hyperbaric oxygen therapy (link to this), which has been scientifically proven to speed wound healing.
  • Specialized Treatments
Our physical therapists offer highly-specialized wound treatments that may be part of your comprehensive treatment plan. These include whirlpool therapy, painless electric stimulation to help heal wounds, and ultrasound mist therapy to debride, clean and stimulate wound healing.
  • Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy
Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System has the only hyperbaric oxygen in the Upstate accredited by the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society. Hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) is the medical use of concentrated oxygen to help in certain medical conditions. By breathing hyperbaric oxygen in a pressurized chamber, the patient can deliver extremely high levels of oxygen to tissues in the body which, due to injury or disease, lack the required oxygen. Very high levels of oxygen can help new blood vessels form, help wounds heal, fight infections, and reduce swelling.

We are available for routine care during the day but our facility is available 24/7 for emergency cases.
